Well isn't that something! I am not surprised that the U.S. had to go outside to come up with a community structure, that is how they operate. It's called build and destroy....they will build something up only to destroy and rebuild it again....lol.…

Deep South Calls in Iran to Cure It's Health Blues...

What an interesting model. but I don't think they had to go all the way to Iran to realize that localized, community based care makes all the difference. It is what has made the difference in every single midwifery model of care that works around the world....enjoy the interesting article I can see why we haven't been hearing about this one but I am eager to hear the results once it's up and running...

December 23, 2009

American mothers as a whole do not breast-feed their babies as much as health experts would like, but African-American moms have the lowest rates of all — by some measures, they are half as likely to nurse as whites and Hispanics.

The federal government, some hospitals and nonprofits are trying differe… Continue

Thought Provoking Blog post...

Sooo-I have been reading one of our sistah-member's blog-Guerrilla Mama Medicine and her most recent post (see hyperlink) is titled, "Getting Used" and discusses whether or not we doulas are pawns of the medical system... It really made me stop and think about what my role has been in the mainly hospital births that I have attended... have I been using the master's tools in the master's house? Hmmm.… Continue

Grounding Exercise to Connect With Your Baby In-Utero

As you proceed with this exercise be aware that each of us receives intuitive information differently. Be open to what you are feeling, knowing, hearing, and seeing as you play with this exercise. Also remember, the more you employ this exercise the richer your experience will become.

Establishing the Connection

1. Take a deep breath as you ground your body. To ground, make an imaginary connection between the base of your spine as wide as your hips to the center of the earth. You may wish to p… Continue

Greetings
I am participating in the current AAMI's childbirthreadingroom. I am so pleased that you mentioned it here. Are there any other Canadian Doulas here? I Do have a business. I run a small maternity store and support centre. I offer my doula services, childbirth education, and run a pregnancy outreach program. The photo is from the health and wellness fair. I intend on bringing the state of maternal health care to the attention of other holistic practioners. Since natural childbirth is in jeopardy, I try to network with other professionals who are in tune with a whole body health approach. I encourage other doulas to participate in their local health and wellness fairs, facilitate workshops and network with those who practice medicine and live in the way we want our mamas to birth...naturally.
Respect,
