Darcel, that is cutting it close. Last year, a woman attended the Harlem doula training with her weeks-old son. It worked out well for her but certainly isn't the right decision for everyone. There are lots of other training options out there too. I…

Yea! I spend about 6 hours a week writing between 3-4 articles, depending on the rest of my schedule. Articles can be long or short, depending on your time, topic, etc. They do need to be written in the third person (no use of "I") as the expectatio…

I think I'll go ahead and apply. How much time do you think you spend on this per week? How long do your articles typically need to be?

How is it going, Aremisa? Is there some way that I can help?

Can you help?

I'm tapping into the doula network for two things -

I need help connecting pregnant women with a midwife in Ohio and a doula in Colombia (So. Am). Any help with either of these is greatly appreciated.

Full Circle Doula Training is going to Montgomery, AL in early December. I'm looking for a few good sisters - local experts in the areas of prenatal nutrition, labor & delivery, and breastfeeding to present. Also need to contact three 6-7 month pregnant Alabama women who want to learn (at no… Continue

Aspen Women's Center policy

This photo has been getting a lot of comments since posting on Ricki Lake's website. Apparently a few folks actually called the clinic to ask about the policy but were unsuccessful at having a discussion. My daughter shared the photo on Facebook with the following comment:

"The only good thing about this sign is that it lets every woman considering having her child there know exactly what the deal is. She doesn't even have to waste her time trying to have a non medicalized birth with these pContinue

Freebirthing, an underground movement now in the spotlight

The article Freebirthing: an underground movement now in the spotlight was written by Andrea Gardiner, the friend of a close friend.

Although I'd heard of unassisted birth (without medical supervision from doctors or midwives), I had never heard the term "freebirthing" until now. The publicity of this unfortunat… Continue

I am glad to hear that your mom is doing better. I figured that you were busy and may not have gotten the message. Perhaps the sister thought that I didn't still need to talk to you since she gave me Shafia's address. In any event I will touch base with you soon.

Greetings Aqiylah,
I called you a few weeks ago to get Sister Shafia's address. You were on another line and I have been meaning to call you again since I never heard from you. I got Shafia's address from the sister who took my call, but I wanted to make sure that you received the package that I sent you. Based on what you told me regarding certification, I expected to receive something around the 2nd of September. I hope you received what I sent and I hope it was all ok.

I have been adding to the requirements even though the package was sent already. I attended an additional birth and participated in Claudia Booker's Childbirth Education session in D.C. I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Well isn't that something! I am not surprised that the U.S. had to go outside to come up with a community structure, that is how they operate. It's called build and destroy....they will build something up only to destroy and rebuild it again....lol.…
