Doulas of Color

Gathering doulas of all colors, to help build a better nation!

Examiner.com is an online news source that is quickly becoming one of the most recognized and fastest-growing local web destinations on the Internet. Examiners are credible, passionate and knowledgeable local influencers who contribute unique and original content to entertain, inform, and inspire our readers.

I'm the Portland Holistic Health Examiner for Examiner.com. I'd love to know what you think about my articles! So far, my experience with Examiner.com has been great and I'm enjoying learning how to share my knowledge about my topic with people all over the world.

Examiner.com relies on its existing writers to refer anyone who might be a good Examiner (reporter). A few months ago I checked to see how many Examiners of color (and doulas in particular) were writing about birth. I didn't find any. So when I came across Why hiring a doula is important, written by Kenya Scott, the Atlanta Attachment Parenting Examiner, I thought about this community of creative doula women.

The fact is, Examiner needs more women of color to write about birth. I'd love for you to lend your voice and spread the word about doulas’ impact on families, communities, infant mortality, breastfeeding, and positive change. If you are a writer I think Examiner.com might be a good way for you to share your expertise, reach a larger audience, establish yourself as an authority, and make some extra money in the process.

To learn more, you can read up on the process or if you're ready, you can apply now. If you decide to apply, would you mind letting them know I referred you? Currently, Examiner.com pays a $50 referral bonus for each accepted person that I refer. Simply include my ID# (11140) on the online application to let them know I sent you. This instructional video shows you how. Keep in mind that the referral program is open to you too once you are accepted as an Examiner!

If you have questions, just let me know. Thanks for taking a look at my Examiner page, and, if you decide to apply, good luck!

How is it going, Aremisa? Is there some way that I can help?

I answered my own question about your topic and I intend to read your articles to get an idea of what I might want to write about for my area. I didn't realize that your topic was in your title.

Thanks again.

LOL! No worries. Glad you found your answer.

Good stuff. I can't wait to get on this. I must plan my time.

Great Tamara! Please let me know how I can support you.

I think I'll go ahead and apply. How much time do you think you spend on this per week? How long do your articles typically need to be?

Reply to This

Yea! I spend about 6 hours a week writing between 3-4 articles, depending on the rest of my schedule. Articles can be long or short, depending on your time, topic, etc. They do need to be written in the third person (no use of "I") as the expectation is that an Examiner is a reporter, writing about what's happening and how it is relevant to their local vicinity.

I hope you go for it as I believe that (especially our) voices from the birth community are not heard enough!

Aqiylah

p.s. please don't forget to use my ID (#11140) as your referral source. Thanks!

Greetings!

I am committed to increasing the voices of women of color in general and doulas in particular to be heard in the public media. So, if there is anyone who is considering writing for Examiner.com about birth (or any other topic) but needs assistance, has questions, or just wants to talk it through, please feel free to reach out to me.

Much love,
Aqiylah

Well isn't that something! I am not surprised that the U.S. had to go outside to come up with a community structure, that is how they operate. It's called build and destroy....they will build something up only to destroy and rebuild it again....lol.…
