I am working to start a Doulas of Color Collective in the Atlanta area. Here is the info:
The Doulas of Color Collective is an initiative of Wombanism, Inc., a new
Atlanta-based organization focusing on womb health and advocacy in
childbearing women of color. The collective will be comprised of doulas
of color with varying levels of experience, working with a range of
demographics. The collective will meet on a regular basis to share
skills, knowledge, resources, and experiences. Members of the collective
will provide support for each other and assist in troubleshooting and
problem solving. Member doulas will also examine the needs of our
identity communities and ways in which the collective can advocate for
parents, children, and communities of color.
The Doulas of Color Collective will be a safe space to share our visions,
our frustrations, our needs, and our joys. We will come together out of a
great love and passion for our communities and the birthing process. We
will come together out of a collective understanding that women of color,
because of our historical relationship to medical institutions, have
unique needs that must be addressed. We will continue to strengthen each
other, so that we all may hold fast to our hopes and dreams of Empowered
Mothers, Empowered Families, Empowered Communities.
If you are interested in being a part of this collective, please contact
Tamika Middleton at tamika@wombanism.org, or (843)476-9085.
